Today we will talk about paper formats. Their history begins with the end of the XVIII century. As early as 1798 the German publicist and learned doctor Georg Christoph Lichtenberg in his letter to Johann Beckman explains the practical and aesthetic attitude of the parties equal to the square root of 2.
In 1922 in Germany in order to save andthe standard is introduced in DIN 406. This concept was so convincing that many countries in Europe and Asia adopt the German standard as a national one. And since 1975 for all official documents of the United Nations are introduced exactly its size sheet.
The exception is the countries of North America, the USA and Canada, as well as Japan.
According to ISO standards, the paper is initially dividedinto three main classes. The basis is taken sheet with an area of one square meter. To this size corresponds the format A0. It is customary to consider the length and width in millimeters. As a general rule, all other paper sizes are determined by dividing the longest side by two, that is, if A0 (841x1189) is cut in half, we get 594x841. This will be the format of A1, etc.
For reference information, we will take down all the dimensions of class A in the table.
Paper size A0 | 841x1189 |
Paper size A1 | 594x841 |
Paper size A2 | 420x594 |
Paper size A3 | 297x420 |
A4 paper size | 210h297 |
A5 paper size | 148x210 |
Paper size A6 | 105x148 |
A7 paper size | 74x105 |
Paper size A8 | 52х74 |
Paper size A9 | 37x52 |
A10 paper size | 26x37 |
But mass production in Europe can notto rely on a certain format. This is due to the fact that more and more printing equipment is used that can work universally, satisfying the consumer's demand. That is why there are paper formats of class B. They are defined as a geometric mean between neighboring classes of class A. That is, B1 is the geometric mean between A0 and A1. The C-class format is similar, it is the geometric mean between the formats A and B of the same number. That is, the letter written on the A4 sheet will fit perfectly in the C4 envelope, and the A5 sheet will easily fall into the C5 envelope.
B0 | 1000x1414 | C0 | 917 * 1297 |
IN 1 | 707x1000 | C1 | 648 * 917 |
AT 2 | 500x707 | C2 | 458 * 648 |
AT 3 | 353x500 | C3 | 324 * 458 |
AT 4 | 250x353 | C4 | 229 * 324 |
AT 5 | 176x250 | C5 | 162 * 229 |
AT 6 | 125x176 | C6 | 114 * 162 |
AT 7 | 88x125 | C7 | 81 * 114 |
AT 8 | 62x88 | C8 | 57 * 81 |
AT 9 | 44x62 | C9 | 40 * 57 |
AT 10 O'CLOCK | 31x44 | C10 | 28 * 40 |
All the above formats are edged, that is, they are the sizes of the sheet of finished publications.
Search engine pages often appearconfusion with format and quality. Classes A, B, and C in no case should be confused with the categories of paper A, A +, B, B +, C, C + - and vice versa. In the first case - this is the size, in the second - the grade and properties. The above categories determine the quality of the paper according to certain parameters, such as density, whiteness, humidity, curl, electrical conductivity, smoothness, roughness, thickness, stiffness. In accordance with the categories, quality is determined, that is, luxury category paper is A, price-quality ratio is paper of category B, paper of economy class is C.
