Talented artist Ivan Kramskoy created a greatnumber of fine canvases. One of his masterpieces is rightly considered to be a painting written in a romantic style called "Moonlight Night". Initially, the woman in white was Anna Popova,who later became the wife of the famous chemist Dmitry Mendeleyev. At the final stage of writing, the main character was already drawn from another model, Elena Andreevna Tretyakova, the second wife of the buyer and customer of the painting, patron and famous collector Sergei Tretyakov. The name "Moonlight Night" came not at once, the artist considered a variety of options, including "Magic Night", "Old Poplars" or simply "Night". According to the last will of the owner, after his death, the canvas was transferred to the Tretyakov Gallery, where it is still.
