In the Chuvash Republic there is a city of Cheboksary. The Russian Drama Theater, which is located in the center of this city, is the oldest professional theater in this region. The building itself was built in 1959, and the history of it is part of the artistic and aesthetic heritage of the entire Chuvashia. Founded the theater in 1922 and for the history of existence on its stage played a variety of actors who subsequently made a significant contribution to the theatrical art of this republic.
In this city attempts to create a real Russianthe theater was made a long time ago. By 1918 are the first modest steps in this direction. Then lovers of Russian art created their own performances, which they showed in the people's house in Cheboksary. This building is the house of the merchant Ephraim. A couple of years later, a small group of professional actors is added to the amateur collective. In 1922 on December 14 the first theatrical season in Cheboksary of the Russian Drama Theater opens. The first production that the audience saw was the production of Ostrovsky's work "Vasilis Melentiev". This significant day also laid the foundation for the history of the theater and the professional team of actors in Chuvashia. The theatrical company was headed by IA Slobodskaya, the director, who brought with his many years of experience the best theatrical traditions from St. Petersburg to the Chuvash Russian Theater. The special creative rise of the Russian theater in Cheboksary was the period when E. Tokmakov directed it.
The first director of the Cheboksary Russian Theaterbecame IA Slobodskaya, thanks to which the first traditions of the formation of art in Chuvashia were laid. In 1937, Tokmakov EA became his artistic director, he worked here for more than two decades. Over time, the troupe turns into a single school theater. At this time, many well-deserved figures of art of the Czechoslovak Republic come here: GA Morev, VS Osipov and many others. Thanks to the efforts of the artistic director E. Tokmakov, the creative team was united, a real constellation of talents appeared. After the first art director retired, in Cheboksary the Russian Drama Theater was headed by a young talented director VP Romanov. This was a new stage in the history of the theater.
Since 1997, in it a new leader - V.I. Sergeev, who also made a significant contribution to the development of the theater art and culture of Chuvashia. Today the chief director of the Cheboksary Russian Drama Theater is VA Krasotin. In different years on the stage of the institution played a huge number of actors who wrote down his pages in his story. Today he is proud of the names of Honored Artists of Chuvashia, the real theater luminaries in Cheboksary.
In the repertoire of this well-known in Chuvashia theater forhis entire history of existence has repeatedly been staged performances of works of national drama. The performances "Aidar" and "Symphony of everyday life" by P. Osipov and some others became a major event in the cultural life of the native republic. They were deserved success not only from local viewers. To date, the director of the theater, Honored Cultural Worker of Chuvashia - S. M. Ermolaev, actively implements here various Internet projects. Since 2010, tickets for the theater can be purchased on the site, and in 2016, an online broadcast of the productions was launched. Cheboksary Russian Drama Theater is the only one in the republic that offers such a service.
The theatrical company regularly participates inall kinds of festivals not only of All-Russia, but also of international scale. This - "Bridge of Friendship" in Yoshkar-Ola, "At the Golden Gate" in Vladimir, a competition of theatrical art called "Patterned Curtain" and others. Cheboksary Russian Drama Theater in 2015 entered the rating of the 50 best professional theaters of Russia in 2015.
