Those who lived in the Soviet Union do not surprisethe history of artists who, born thousands of kilometers from Moscow, managed to achieve fame and recognition throughout the country. In this country appreciated the real talent. Biography Rotaru originates in the remote village of Marshyntsi in the west of Ukraine, where in 1947 the future star of the Soviet stage Sofia Rotaru was born in the family of the wine-grower Mikhail Rotary. Her childhood was not easy. The girl had to get up before sunrise and go with the mother to the market, stand behind the counter, and sometimes work in the field. After all, the family had six children, and Sofia was the oldest, after Zoya's blind sister, and therefore - the main assistant of her parents. Despite many difficulties, the Rotary family has not been burdened by its life. In their house music always sounded: all members of the family sang. From the first grade Sofia sang in the school choir, as well as in the village church during the service. Her first musical instruments were accordion and domra. Nevertheless, the biography of Rotaru as a singer begins in 1962, when the fifteen-year-old Sofia, having won in the regional contest, gets to the regional review in Chernivtsi. Here she also becomes a winner. The next step is a trip to Kiev to the republican festival "Young Talents". Again, the girl is waiting for victory. In 1964, she performed for the first time on the Kremlin scene and received many positive reviews about her voice. It seems that her fate is decided. Sofia decides to seriously engage in vocal and enters the music school in the city of Chernivtsi.
After graduation in 1968 sheis sent as a part of the delegation to the Ninth World Youth Festival in Sofia. As later Bulgarian and Soviet newspapers and magazines wrote, "Sofia from Ukraine conquered Sofia". After this triumph, her photo is placed on the cover of the magazine "Ukraine". At the same time, somewhere in the Urals, a guy from the city of Chernivtsi - Tolya Evdokimenko, who, by chance seeing her compatriot on the cover of the magazine, falls in love with the girl in the photo and decides to find her after the end of the service.
